Work progressing well to restore water supply to Bay suburbs

The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality say they should have the water restored after 8pm tonight, after a contractor damaged a main supply pipeline yesterday afternoon.

Municipal spokesman, Kupido Baron, said work was progressing well, and areas of Summerstrand, Walmer, Humewood and Humerail should have water by tomorrow.

The water supply was interrupted when a 525 mm diameter steel water pipe was damaged by a contractor at the Port Elizabeth International Airport yesterday afternoon. The contractor was busy with the building of retention ponds to negate the effect of flooding on the nearby informal settlements.

Baron said four water tankers were still deployed in the affected areas.

“Residents can contact the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s 24 hour service delivery centre at 0800 20 50 50 if they would like to find out where the tankers are,” he said.
