Electricity is being restored to affected areas

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality have announced that power is currently being restored to the areas affected by the outage caused by the explosion of a high voltage transformer at the Mount Road substation last night.

This follows the successful cleanup operation at the substation today.

Carl Hempel, Director of Distribution, confirmed that the full return of power to all residents would occur sometime after 7pm this evening, in the early to mid evening.

“The Municipality again wishes to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen occurrence,”said Acting Communications Director, Marthie Nel.

The Municipality has been alerted that some residents are struggling to obtain prepaid electricity because vendors are offline.  Please note, that this problem is outside the Municipality’s control as the fault lies with the vendors’ network.
